Study of Counterpoint
This is it, the big-daddy of Counterpoint books. Johann Fux wrote it in 1725, and virtually every great composer since then (Brahms, Beethoven and Mozart to name a few) has studied it meticulously. A true masterpiece of music theory, it is used to this day by many colleges as the basis for their Counterpoint programs.
